Lot 166 Winchester Model 1894 .30-30 SN: 21513
Antique Winchester special order 'Take-Down' rifle, manufactured 1897. The rifle was also ordered with Lyman sights. 22" round barrel, full length tube magazine, Lyman blade/bead front sight, adjustable buckhorn rear sight and a factory installed Lyman model 21 "Climbing Lyman" on left receiver. Lever safety, factory installed "screw eyes". Smooth walnut forearm and shoulder stock with shotgun butt and hard rubber buttplate with "Winchester" monogram. The tang & caliber markings are clear, the serial number is feint but readable and the two line barrel address is feint, partially readable, worn from handling. The bore is fair to good, strong rifling, lightly frosted, action is smooth, wood is overall very good/sound with no chips or cracks, minor scratches, dings and the original blue is about 50% with handling wear, no pitting observed. The serial number dates the rifle to 1894, but the Winchester letter from the Cody Firearms Museum states the SN was applied on march 30, 1897 which takes precedence. The letter also confirms the special order features listed above. The rifle was shipped April 223, 1897, returned for repair on August 25, 1900. Letter included.
